Joint architectural projects in Japan

After the Second World War, the architect TANIGUCHI Yoshirô and TSUCHIKAWA Motoo, president of the “Nagoya Railway Company”, came up with the idea of dismantling buildings at risk of demolition, gathering them together with other buildings at a specific location, and rebuilding them there. In March 1965, Meiji-Mura, the “Meiji Museum Village”, opened. Today, this open-air museum, situated on the outskirts of Inuyama, features over 60 restored and reconstructed buildings from the Meiji, Taishô and early Shôwa period.
