Bonsai 盆栽

Bonsai are miniature trees that have been specially treated (shape, root and leaf cutting and wiring) to achieve the desired growth form – their height is usually 15 to 80 cm – as potted plants or in bowls, which are placed in the garden or in the tokonoma (niche in the room for aesthetic purposes). Traditionally, fruit trees (cultivated apple, apricot), pine, maple, juniper or elm are used. With appropriate professional care, bonsai trees can live to be several hundred or even one thousand years old.
