Einsteinturm / Einstein Tower
Potsdam / Germany 1924
The Einstein Tower, an astrophysical observatory with a solar telescopem, designed by astronomer Erwin Finlay-Freundlich, was built to test a prediction by Einstein’s theory of relativity. The architect Richard NEUTRA, employed by Mendelsohn at the time, designed the grounds around the tower. With the rise of National Socialism, all four of these famous men – Einstein, Mendelsohn, Freundlich and Neutra – had to leave Germany.
