ISOZAKI Arata invited one Japanese architect ISHIYAMA Osamu and five non-Japanese architects Oscar TUSQUÈTS, Christian DE PORTZAMPARC, Mark MACK, Steven HOLL and Rem KOOLHAAS to define a superblock with freestanding perimeter buildings in the City of Fukuoka for a client who wanted to introduce a ‘new urban lifestyle’ in Japan.
