Seas around Japan
日本近海の海
Japan in the northwest Pacific Ocean, which indirectly borders Russia to the north and north-west, North and South Korea to the west and Taiwan and China to the south-west. The “Sea of Japan” is a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean (called “East Sea” in South Korea and “Korean East Sea” in North Korea). It is bounded to the south and east by the Japan Islands, to the north by Sakhalin Island and to the west by the mainland of Russia, North and South Korea. The “Sea of Okhotsk” is also a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean located northeast of Hokkaidô, surrounded by Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands and the Kamchatka Peninsula. The “Ryūkyū Islands” border the East China Sea to the west from the Philippine Sea to the east, which also borders the main islands from the south.
