Shitennô (shi = four, tennô = king of heaven) Jikokuten, Zôchoten, Kômokuten and Tamonten are guardians of the four cardinal points as well as protectors of Buddhist teachings, people, the Bodhisattva and Buddha. They originally come from Hindu mythology and were only later incorporated into Buddhism.
