The Ôhara Museum of Art, designed in 1930 by YAKUSHIJI Kazue and whose grounds are flanked by sculptures by Auguste RODIN, was the first museum in Japan to be devoted almost exclusively to 19th- and 20th-century French art. Following various extensions, the museum now also houses significant collections of modern Japanese art: the museum’s annex, in whose garden, for example, temporary exhibitions of sculptures by Henry MOORE can be seen, was designed by URABE Shizutarô and completed in 1961.
