Located in the the historic Kurashiki Bikan district, the Ôhara Museum of Art is Japan’s oldest private art museum and an ode to the grand masters of Western art in the form of an ancient Greek temple. Local entrepreneur and art collector ÔHARA Magosaburo founded the museum in 1930. The gallery is larger than it may appear. Pathways lead from the main entrance to two additional galleries on the grounds: a converted stone granary is dedicated to Asian art and craft.
