The museum is the largest art museum in the San’in region (region in the South-West of the Japanese main island of Honshū) and has gained worldwide renown for its unique architectural connection to the adjacent Lake Shinji. The building offers an spectacular views of Japan’s natural landscape and is one of the most beautiful places in Japan to watch the sunset. The exhibitions focus primarily on works of art that explore the themes of water or light.
