The museum traces its origins to KOYAMA Mihoko (1910-2003), heiress to the Toyobo textile company, one of Japan’s richest women. In 1970, she founded the “Shinji Shumeikai” spiritual movement. In 1991, she commissioned the museum to be built near “Misono”, the Shumei spiritual centre, in the mountains of Shiga.
