This building was completed in 1934 as the “Lake Biwa Hotel”. Known as the ‘Guest House of Lake Country’, the hotel has hosted the Emperor Showa (and the American actor John Wayne). In December 2000, it was designated a “Tangible Cultural Property of Ôtsu City”, and in November 2007 it was recognised as a “Heritage of Industrial Modernisation” by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
