hina-ningyō 雛人形 hina dolls

For the girls’ festival on March 3rd, hina-ningyô (hina dolls) are displayed on a terrace display in families with daughters. The emperor and empress are enthroned at the top. On the second tier are the ladies of the court and below them five musicians with their instruments. On the fourth step are two heavily armed guards, followed by three officials. The court usually consists of 15 dolls with accessories.
