Yokohama City 横浜市
Japan`s second largest city – almost 3.8 million people – is the center for shipping, trade and foreign contact since the mid-19th century. Formely a little fishing village on the interurban road Tôkaidô it was made a treaty port and is today one of the world`s largest ports. 1923 the “Great Kantô Earthquake” destroyed over 90 percent of the city and killed 40,000 people – later World War II bombing destroyed half of the city.
