冬 fuyu

The Japanese Meteorological Agency calls days with a daily minimum temperature below 0°C (32°F) winter days, and days with a daily maximum temperature below 0°C (32°F) midwinter days. These days occur around January, from December to March of the following year (although depending on the year and region, they may also occur in November and April), so in Japan, this period falls within the scope of winter. Early winter (shotô 初冬), beginning until middle of December, first snow in the middle of Japan. Late winter (bantô 晩冬), about the month of Febuary, exchange of warm and cold winds.
